Our beeswax coated plastic foundation will stand up to season after season, extraction after extraction. The deeper cells feature textured interiors and sharper cell edges that encourage quicker acceptance.

It is recommended that this product is used in every frame location, if given the choice bees will brace against pure wax foundation.

Tip, after two seasons use a wide scrapper our ( HD-615 ) to clean the plastic foundation back to the rib, then place the box and frames back on the hive above a crown board with just one hole in the crown board open. The bees will usually clean the residue from the plastic frames leaving the plastic foundation ready to use.

If you think the frames need to be cleaned more thoroughly this can be done with either a small steam cleaner or by soaking in soda and bleach.

The plastic foundation can also be melted out at low temperature provided it is left in the frame, use some caution when using heat on the plastic foundation..

Once cleaned re coat with wax using a small sponge roller .

  • Requires no reinforcement
  • Impervious to wax moth damage
  • Food grade plastic
  • Use year after year with proper care

Making a change

I use Poly style hives and and going through a transition from one make to another and also decided to swap to these out from straight wax foundation.
They are not uniformly waxed as some areas have more wax than others but I am not expecting that to be a major issue.
I'm using them currently on a swarm hive of this year that are very prolific Russian / Italian style bees and they are building these frames up very quick. I also have yellow style and can't see any difference preference wise to my bees.
They came swiftly and well packed.

Bees take and draw this out a lot quicker than the yellow plastic, only fault on my order was it wasn't the beeswax coated that was supplied, it was the uncoated I got,
