Wood Pellet Smoker Fuel (5lb bag)
Compressed wood pellets burn clean and are great for keeping your smoker burning longer. They are perfect for short or long trips to the apiary.
Beekeeper's Advice: The Cotton Fuel is great for quick trips or for a few colonies. Use the wood pellets for longer trips. Think of the wood pellets as logs to the fire. They can't be beat for extended burn time but need some time to get started.
About this item
I decided to try these pellets out because my smoker always went out just when I needed it. I have always used ripped up egg boxes with some dry grass clippings and try not to over smoke my bees, so became more frustrated that as my apiary grew in size, I was needing to re-light frequently. The pellets work best in the smoker by lighting it in usual way with newspaper and in my case, the
egg box strips, add a hand full of pellets when smoker gets going. Don't over fill. Then, pump the bellows a fair bit to get them cooking! Didn't need to relight the smoker with these at all, just checked three quarters of the way through my inspections to ensure the fuel wasn't too low, or just pumped bellows some more and add few extra pellets if needed. Yes, a bit more pricey, but I'm glad I gave them a try. I can relax more knowing the smoker isn't out when I reach for it.
Happy beekeeper = happier bees!
