Pre-order: B.S. National Wood Bound Queen Excluder
We use the same great Metal Excluder, but replace the metal frame with one made of wood.
The depth is different on each side (see images), providing the correct bee space when placed deep side down, and adequate space on the top side below the super frames hanging above.
The queen excluder is used to keep your queen in the brood box and prevent the laying of eggs in the honey supers.
About this item
Waited ages for these to arrive. Did Bee Equipment, said they were waiting for wood ! Aventurely arrived, not good quality, but cheap. So the offer wasn't that good.
There are better around
Good and sturdy!
I bought one of these a few months ago to see how good they were, and how well they represented value for money. If I was rating that version it would have been a 5* review. What I received this time round was quite simply shocking quality.
The wood is flimsy to be polite about it, the old one was made of a more dense, darker wood, where as these newer ones are made of a very soft wood, which appears to be european spruce, or Scots Pine. The corners are so weak that one was broken when it arrived, and are held together only by one staple on one side. The spaces either side of the frame are almost the same, one is 8mm, the other 10mm with a total thickness including the screen of 20mm. The previous version has 10mm one side, 3mm the other and is overall 15mm deep. As you can see from the measurements, the bee space is wrong on the new ones, resulting in much scraping of burr comb.
As I need the excluders, and had waited a loooooong time for delivery I had to rebuild them, gluing the corners and using some decent quality staples. I doubt I would buy these again, unless the return is made to the old style, because these are dreadful.
This is quite a nice good value for money queen excluder nice product thanks.
